From design to device

Every experiment in the UltraQUTE group starts in the cleanroom. Our devices combine nanometre-scale surface gates, which shape the paths electrons take, with ohmic contacts, coplanar waveguides and photoconductive switches hundreds of micrometres across. All of these have to work together on one chip and survive cooling to cryogenic temperatures.

Where we fabricate

Devices are made in the University of Glasgow's James Watt Nanofabrication Centre (JWNC), using electron-beam lithography and the associated etching and metallisation processes.

Current directions

Members of the group are working on quantum nanocircuits for quantum processing, graphene nanoelectronic devices for ultrafast applications, and photonic chip-to-fibre coupling for packaging.
